About ALA
ALA has 36 years of experience serving legal management professionals. Today, it provides benefits and value to more than 10,000 members in 30 countries.
To serve such a large and diverse membership, ALA is structured to provide direction, flexibility and opportunity on the local, regional and international levels. The Association's overall vision comes from its Board of Directors, comprised of volunteer leaders nominated by fellow members. The Board provides ideas for new initiatives, and gives direction to the Association's staff, Regional Officers and chapter leaders.
ALA is divided into six regions, each served by one member of the Board and three Regional Officers responsible for coordinating communication, education and projects within the region. Together, these volunteers serve and assist chapters and individual members.
ALA's chapters provide local services for most members. The chapters support a host of educational activities and projects of their own, and all hold periodic meetings that give legal administrators the chance to get to know each other face to face, forge professional and personal ties, and share ideas. In addition to these geographic-based chapters, the Cyber Chapter allows members, regardless of location, to share their knowledge and conduct chapter activities via the Internet.
Finally, the Association has a dedicated professional staff working at its Headquarters office to provide quality programs, products and services that will benefit members and their employer organizations.
Each level of ALA's structure exists to assist you. Get to know your leaders at the chapter, regional and international levels. Share your interests and concerns with staff members. And, if it's right for you, consider becoming a volunteer leader yourself. The relationships you'll develop can be one of the greatest benefits of your membership.
